Women overshadowed by men are no strangers to our history, and Emilie du Châtelet is no exception to the rule. Do you even know her name, her life, her longing? Here, in a cosmic struggle between love and philosophy, the Marquis stands to defend her own story.

The Town & Gown Players are proud to announce auditions for our next Main Stage show, Emilie: La Marquise Du Châtelet Defends Her Life Tonight! All ability statuses and identities are welcome to join us at 115 Grady Ave. on Monday, February 10th, and Tuesday, February 11th, with auditions to consist of cold readings from the script. A bit about the show:
Emilie: La Marquise du Châtelet Defends Her Life Tonight is a play by Lauren Gunderson about the life of 18th century scientific genius Emilie du Châtelet. The play explores her intellectual pursuits, her relationship with Voltaire, and her struggle to balance love and philosophy.

The characters to be cast are as follows:
Emilie (f): Confident and curious; deeply intellectual.
Voltaire (m): Charming and boyish; proud.
Soubrette (f): Emilie in essence; Voltaire’s Emilie.
Madam (f): An older woman of strong influence, plays Mother and Madam Graffigny.
Gentleman (m): Plays The Marquis, serious and formal but still warm, and Jean-François, sincere and doting.
Nobleman (m): Plays Marain, snide and proud, and Maupertuis, sexy and academic.
Noblewoman (f): Plays Mary-Louise, simple and naive, and Daughter, direct and strong.
